Together with the vampire bat Desmodus rotundus in the United States, New Zealand bats that only two of the 1100 species of bats in the world who can walk with four legs with indeed.

Bats that use the wings as legs. Thumbs and fingers have additional, including the adhesive system, such as in the gecko.

The team also found that, muscle and bone adaptation is similar to a fossil found in Australia. "that short-tailed bat seems the only survivors from its great-grand father in Australia and is now only found in New Zealand," says Dr Hand.

"These bats against the hypothesis was not found on land because of predator factors competition or other animal," he said.

He added with a different bird, there is no evidence of bats flying ability decreases due to living in a remote island.

"Competition with other mammals as well as pressure from predators on land does not prevent vampire bats walk on land. Similarly, the ancient fathers bat Australia also has many competitors and predators on land, "he said.
